1. The Case Law of International Shoe Co. v. the State of Washington has been used since the last 50 years to resolve legal issues of fair play, substantial justice, minimum contacts, and personal jurisdiction. The Case Law first established a test, known as the “minimum contacts” test, employed by the court to determine whether a state court (supreme court) will apply jurisdiction over an out of state defendant. An out of state company was the defendant that hired worker (salesman) within the state of Washington. The state sued the International Shoe Co. to recover unpaid unemployment taxes via mail or serve one of the salesmen within the state.
